Something from Mary

Let’s be clear, I love the movie White Christmas, but I am not dreaming of a white Christmas…. I’m all for a light dusting after everyone has arrived at their destination, so it looks iconic like a good old fashioned Hollywood musical. But here we are, IN Minnesota, the state where it can hail one day and snow the next…. Oh wait, it did.

Small Business Saturday – Thank You!

We would like to express our thanks and gratitude to everyone that came out on Small Business Saturday to shop local! A huge shout out to our “Red Clad Elves” which included members from the Bring It Home Committee, Chamber Board of Directors and Hutchinson Ambassadors. The “Red Clad Elves” were on Main Street enticing patrons to spin the Welcome Station’s spinning wheel that allowed them to choose a gift from the Giving Tree. The “Red Clad Elves” were also out and about in Hutchinson surprising shoppers with gift cards that they could use to pay for their purchases.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to all the businesses that donated to Small Business Saturday. Your donations, time and talents made Small Business Saturday a huge success one again!

Year End Review…

Let’s be clear, I love the movie White Christmas, but I am not dreaming of a white Christmas…. I’m all for a light dusting after everyone has arrived at their destination, so it looks iconic like a good old fashioned Hollywood musical. But here we are, IN Minnesota, the state where it can hail one day and snow the next…. Oh wait, it did.

Just as many of us were surprised back in March with hail, then snow… and it snowed in late April also…. We can also be surprised with unexpected business changes. It is so HO HO important to work on your business and keeping it shored up against changes that will inevitably come around.

Whether you’re managing employment changes, regulations and laws, industry upheavals or maybe through growth (think about growing pains when you were a young child) being agile and willing to maneuver through change is very important. Change whether positive or not, still brings stress to you, and those around you.

Just a couple of considerations for 2018:

Retention: It’s so much easier (AND CHEAPER) to retain employees rather than attract and train new ones. What are you really doing to retain your current workforce? It isn’t about pay for 90% of your employees. My action item for you: ASK your employees what is meaningful to them.

Education: Have you or your employees been through educational seminars, workshops or classes to stay up to speed on newest techniques, industry standards or new skills? A great way to get refreshed is to get out of the office, because we don’t know what we don’t know. Action Item: Don’t delete the emails coming from industry experts, take a look at what they can offer you and your staff.

Policies and Procedures: I know you love it when I bring this up! But policies and procedures can easily become outdated. Action Item: pick a couple right now you know aren’t up to date and take the time. Okay…. MAKE the time.

2018 holds mystery and intrigue for the business world. It could be smooth sailing or a roller coaster ride with one of those horrid upside down thingies in the middle. Set yourself up to ride the wave, and have a great start to 2018.

I pray your year-end goes well, and you take the time to be with your loved ones over the holidays. I’ll see you on the flipside! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

December Business of the Month

137 Main St S Hutchinson, MN 55350

Whether you’re looking for an exciting date night with your special someone, a family fun night that will appease each generation,or a great way to bond with your co-workers, The Paint Factory offers you a unique opportunity to unleash your inner artist and create both incredible art and memories.

About The Paint Factory

The Paint Factory first opened in Hutchinson almost four years ago and didn’t just bring another unique business to our town, but a unique experience as well. It doesn’t matter if you’re a talented artist, or if you haven’t picked up a paintbrush since elementary school – The owner, Tara Tepley, tells us, “It brings me so much joy to see people enter the studio afraid of how their paintings will turn out and leave with a created masterpiece.” Even if you still have some doubts that you’ll be walking away with a masterpiece, the most important thing is you know you’ll always enjoy yourself when you’re at The Paint Factory. It’s a chance to get away for a couple of hours and unleash creativity in ways many of us don’t get to anymore.

Beyond just offering something unique to Hutchinson, The Paint Factory also offers a variety. You can view their online calendar to see what canvas paintings are on the docket, and they now offer several pallet painting classes as well. Their team has also started painting on plywood and burlap – there is always something different to try!

What a lot of people might not know is how much The Paint Factory likes to give back. Tara and her mother are both Breast Cancer survivors so at the end of each paint class they sell the instructor’s demo painting and 100% of the funds go to a local family who is going through cancer treatment. They also host monthly fundraisers for local non-profits to help them spread the word about their organizations.

What’s Happening in December?

December is a special time for The Paint Factory. Ladies Night is taking place on December 12th and The Paint Factory will be partnering with a couple of local businesses to make it a truly special night – this sells out every year so make sure you contact The Paint Factory now to see how you can be a part of it! This month they will also be featuring an Open Paint / Open Pallet night on Monday December 18th, complete with Karaoke and an Ugly Sweater Competition where you can when some great prizes. The studio has also taken on the look of “Whoville” from a recent “Grinch” event, so it’s sure to be a fun and festive time.

Lastly in December, The Paint Factory will be teaming up with Hutchinson Family Dentistry and New Era Financial Shad Ketcher to bring you two classic Christmas movies on the big screen at Century 9 Theaters. They will be screening “White Christmas” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” at 11am and 2pm on December 24th for FREE, along with complimentary cookies, cider and coffee! Bring the whole family, but don’t forget to bring an item to donate to the food shelf.

The January calendar will be up and running soon and anyone who follows The Paint Factory on social media will be the first to know about their early bird registration every month where there are special prices on their classes. Stop in to sign up for a class or get the perfect Gift Card for someone you love!

What does The Paint Factory enjoy most about their Chamber membership?

“We do not know if we would have been able to do what we have done without the Chamber. They are always there with advice and we love the community feel of the businesses.”
