LMT, a business unit in the Nuclear Division of the Curtiss-Wright Corporation, is consolidating testing operations with its sister company Anatec in Hutchinson, MN. The project is expected to create 5-10 jobs initially.
LMT is an inspection provider of full service Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) services to the Power, Petrochemical, Construction, Defense, and Transportation industries, both in the United States and abroad. The company was established in 1975 as the nuclear industry’s first independent inspection company and has been a leader in the NDE industry for over 39 years. The company employs some of the most experienced examiners in the industry to provide ISI inspections, steam generator eddy current inspections, phased array ultrasonic testing, and balance-of-plant inspections of components and piping.
Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE: CW) has a long history with its roots dating back to Orville and Wilbur Wright’s first flight in 1903, and Mr. Glenn Curtiss, the father of naval aviation. In 1929, the companies founded by these three great aviation pioneers, the Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company and Wright Aeronautical Corporation, merged to form the largest aircraft company at the time, Curtiss-Wright Corporation.

The company had been exploring several locations in the U.S. over the past year before recently committing to Hutchinson. A major part of the decision to relocate was due to the proximity of Ridgewater College’s Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) program.

The Hutchinson Economic Development Authority (EDA) assisted the company with the facility search that included several sites. LMT will enter into a service agreement with Ridgewater College that will allow the company to be housed at Ridgewater’s Business Development Center. As part of the service agreement, LMT and Anatec will act in an adjunct instructor capacity and also allow access to specialized equipment that would not otherwise be available to NDT students.
The company is planning a $100,000.00 build out/renovation at the Business Development Center and hopes to be operational by September 1st. The company’s plans also call for regular training sessions that will result in groups of 20-30 people periodically coming to Hutchinson for weeklong training.
